The coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic still is the real enemy, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified Wednesday, a day after his statement congratulating the public for “beating” University of the Philippines’ (UP) predicted infection rate drew flak.
“Medyo slow sila to gets. Hindi po talaga UP ang kalaban,” he said in an interview on GMA’s Unang Hirit.
In his virtual press briefing yesterday, Roque raised his fist in victory and declared that the government was “winning” its battle against the dreaded disease.
Researchers from UP previously projected that Covid-19 cases in the Philippines could hit 40,000 by June 30. On Tuesday, the Department of Health only recorded 37,514 cases.
“Hindi po UP ang kaaway; ang kaaway po natin ay Covid-19. Kaya nga lang po ginagamit po ng UP ang mathematical models para mag-forecast kung ilan sa atin ang magkakaroon ng Covid-19,” the official stressed.
