1Sambayan isn’t closing its doors on Senator Manny Pacquiao, assuming he has plans to run next year.
Former Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares said the coalition is open to anyone willing to go against the administration’s presumptive bets.
Colmenares is a member of the coalition which seeks to field a unified opposition slate in the upcoming presidential elections.
“I don’t remember Justice Carpio saying ‘closed,” he said on Politiskoop when asked if Pacquiao may still be considered by the group.
“Lahat ng kandidato na gustong lumaban kay Sara Duterte, of course, they are always an option,” he added.
Colmenares however said Pacquiao needs to support 1Sambayan’s stance against extrajudicial killing and human rights violations allegedly perpetrated by the Duterte administration, if he is to be fielded by the administration.
Pacquiao earlier asked retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio to give him a chance, after the latter said Pacquiao is not qualified to be president.
Carpio, the head of 1Sambayan, cited the boxing champ’s absences as congressman and senator. Though there are talks of Pacquiao eyeing the presidency, he has yet to confirm his plans.
