Peddle disinformation. When caught, shift the topic. Repeat.
This in a nutshell was how Sen. Panfilo Lacson described the tactics of opponents of the Anti-Terror Bill, to drum up hatred for the measure.
“Napakaraming disinformation na kumakalat para lang i-oppose ang anti-terrorism bill. Sinagot na namin. Ako sinasagot ko ang issues. Iba na ang issue ng kumokontra, ang pag-implementa raw. Nag-shift ang discussion di na sa mismong batas kundi sa pag-implementa na, baka raw abusuhin,” he said in an interview on DZRH radio.
“Puro kasinungalingan sinasabi nila, mabubuko naman sinasabi nila, narito naman sa batas. Alam nila mabubuko sila. Pero para lang ma-pursue ang kanilang end, ang kanilang objective, ganyan katalamak ang pagsisinungaling na ginagawa,” he added.
He noted the propaganda involving such repeated lies may be similar to the tactics of Joseph Goebbels, Adolf Hitler’s propagandist.
Lacson maintained the only way to counter this is for the public to read the bill itself.
He said at least one close friend, a doctor, had told him about her misgivings about the measure, only to admit later that she did not read the contents of the bill.
“Ang ating pakiusap sa kababayan, huwag agad maniwala sa pasabi ng kumokontra rito. Bagkus, basahin ninyo in its entirety ang batas. Makita ninyong mali ang sinasabi ng kumokontra rito,” Lacson said.
