National Task Force against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. felt weak at the knees after the President questioned Dr. Anthony Leachon’s comments on the government’s ineffective coronavirus response, Palace Spokesman Harry Roque said.
“I hope Secretary Galvez does not mind, ang sabi talaga ni Secretary Galvez eh nanlambot siya with what President [Rodrigo Duterte] declared as far as the statements of Dr. Leachon are concerned,” Roque said in a recent virtual presser.
Galvez earlier said Leachon was let go as his special adviser because of his “preemptive releases of some information prior to official announcement and adaption” which resulted in “unwarranted misunderstanding between two entities that should be working together.”
The physician previously claimed that Roque and Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III were behind his resignation.
Roque, however, denied this, saying that Duterte himself was displeased by Leachon’s social media posts criticizing the DOH over its handling of the pandemic.
“He is giving me too much credit, pambansang laway lang po ako; wala po talaga akong kapangyarihan na mag-compel sa kahit sino sa kanila na mag-resign.
“Noong huling pagpupulong po kay Presidente, nanggaling naman po kay Presidente na bakit nagsasalita ng ganito itong si Leachon. So let me correct you, Dr. Leacheon: Hindi po ako, hindi si Secretary Duque, mismong Presidente po noted that you should not be doing what you were doing,” the Palace official explained.
