Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. is taking the cudgels for the Department of Health amid the probe being conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Locsin said the Ombudsman is “wrong” if it is probing the health department’s decision to buy foreign over local coronavirus test kits. He said this was not the time for a “nationalistic“ experiment.
Ombudsman Samuel Martires reportedly questioned the DOH’s decision to ignore the UP-developed test kits for COVID-19 and instead buy supplies from abroad. Martires, speaking to CNN Philippines, said they found out that politics may be involved in the DOH’s acquisition of test kits based on initial probe.
Locsin didn’t agree with the Ombudsman. He said the health department bought test kits that have proven efficacy.
“Well then the Ombudsman is wrong. This is not the time for nationalistic experimentation,” Locsin tweeted.
“You take what’s out there of proved efficacy. Just no overprice among all imported items,” he said.
