Palace says gov’t listened to UP forecast on Covid-19

By Prince Golez

Malacañang said it considered the recommendation made by experts from the University of the Philippines (UP) when President Rodrigo Duterte decided to retain the general community quarantine (GCQ) classification in Metro Manila.

“Unang-una po, bahagya naman pong nasunod ang rekomendasyon ng UP dahil hindi nga po tayo nag-MGCQ (modified general community quarantine),” Roque said in an interview with GMA’s Unang Hirit Tuesday.

Earlier, the UP predicted that the number of coronavirus cases in the country could reach 40,000 under a more relaxed quarantine.

Late Monday, Duterte extended the GCQ status in Metro Manila and several other areas until June 30.
