Pramis yan ha! Gov’t to speed up processing of returning OFWs, assures purchased PPEs of highest standard

By Prince Golez

The government has vowed to expedite the quarantine procedures for the 42,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are expected to return home this month without compromising public safety.

“Gagawing electronic ang process ng pagbabalik nila (OFWs) from abroad. To avoid decongestion, gagamitin ang ibang paliparan,” National Action Plan against Covid-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said in a “Laging Handa” interview.

Galvez said that Filipino repatriates will stay in Manila or in the airports where they will be arriving for only five days prior to sending them home to their families.

“We will improve the management of returning OFWs and seafarers (quarantine procedures), magiging five days or even shorter nalang ang stay nila dito sa quarantine hotels while waiting for their test results. Gagawin lahat ng agencies ang coordination with LGUs (local government units), while waiting and arranging for their return trip to their places” he furthered.

Meanwhile, Galvez said the government continues to procure high-quality Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to protect the country’s medical frontliners.

He also said that the PPE sets being purchased by the government are “very safe” to use and “conform to the highest standards.”

“Diretso po tayo sa manufacturer ng China. Ang kinukuha nating PPEs ay Level 4. Nag-iikot po kami at tinest po natin ito (PPEs). We will not compromise the standards of PPEs because it will endanger the safety and security of our health workers,” according to him.

Galvez likewise noted the country’s increased testing capacity, citing that 52 testing laboratories have been established nationwide, 25 of which are located in Metro Manila.
