Senate under ‘semi-lockdown’ after 3 personnel tested positive for coronavirus

By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN

The Senate secretariat has reportedly beefed up its security and health protocols inside the GSIS Building after three personnel have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus disease.

Politiko learned from congressional insiders three of the 24 Senate personnel who tested positive for COVID-19 via rapid test kits have infected by the dreaded virus after their confirmatory swab test results were last week.

Two of the infected personnel are holding office in the Senate’s fourth floor and working under the Legislative Budget Service (LBS) and the Management Planning and Operations Audit.

The other one who tested positive came from the Legislative Bill and Index Services (LBIS) which is holding office just besides the Senate Session Hall along second floor.

A legislative staff working for a neophyte senator but requested anonymity said the Senate is currently under ‘semi-lockdown.’

“Naka semi-lockdown Senate ngayon,” the senator’s staff confirmed.

The Senate secretariat is reportedly studying the possibility to place its premises under a 14-day lockdown following the recent infections among their ranks as per advice by some senior senators.
