Unsinkable aircraft carrier? US can erase China’s Scarborough ‘base’ in minutes

The United States is not sweating over China’s militarization of the disputed waters in the South China Sea.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin said a top American military official has assured him they can wipe out China’s military-grade, island fortress in Scarborough Shoal from the face of the earth in minutes.

In an interview with ANC, Locsin recalled a briefing with CICPAC (Commander in Chief, Pacific Command) where he badgered American officials about China’s militarization of Scarborough Shoal.

“The guy [doing the briefing] said … ‘In the first 30 minutes of conflict, we’ll send a missile there’. ‘And that missile is a heat missile. And we’re gonna turn that sand into a Coca-Cola bottle.’ So that’s their response to it,” said Locsin.

“One thing is sure, they already have a landing strip for fighter jets. It is virtually a – I was going to say an unsinkable aircraft carrier, but the Americans are assuming they can erase it in the first 30 minutes of conflict. But it’s there. We call that in the business an ordnance platform. And it’s complete,” he added.

Locsin said the Philippines was banking on the United States to come to its aid in case China became to aggressive in the South China Sea.

“If a line is crossed by any party, by any foreign power, the Mutual Defence Treaty kicks in – and that means I would say – well, I guess that means war,” said Locsin.

“The Americans would say, ’Wait I think Locsin is putting us in a spot’. Well, what is the Mutual Defense Treaty for if not to put them in a spot,” he added.
