Despite a steady increase in coronavirus infections in the capital region, Malacañang hopes that Metro Manila could return to a new normal.
Under the revised guidelines issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, new normal is the next step when areas are no longer placed under any community quarantine.
“Will we ever graduate to MGCQ (Modified General Community Quarantine)? We hope so and that’s what we are striving for,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during a virtual presser Tuesday.
“Borderline naman po ang Metro Manila. Seven means that the risk is moderate. We are at 6.9. Ang advantage ng Metro Manila, because we are the capital, halos lahat ng criticial care resources narito po sa Metro Manila,” added Roque.
Meanwhile, the Palace official attributed to “population density” the continued rise of coronavirus cases in the National Capital Region, which is under GCQ since June 1.
“Talagang population density is part of the problem. Talagang dikit dikit tayo. May mga lugar na nais nating mag social distancing, e parang mahirap gawin yun,” he explained.
“Pero hanggat maaari yan lang po ang ating mga sandata so kinakailangangan mag social distancing, magsuot ng mask, (at) manatiling malusog.”
