Ba’t ngayon pinalutang? Paolo Duterte BFF Eric Yap claims getting P200M bribe to vote for ABS-CBN

A lawmaker close to presidential son and Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte claimed Wednesday (July 8) that he was offered P200 million to vote in favor of ABS-CBN’s franchise application.

ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Yap revealed the supposed bribe offer to him as he slammed reports that lawmakers are being intimidated to vote against ABS-CBN.

“More than two weeks ago, may tumawag sa atin, nagpakilalang emisaryo ng ABS CBN at hinihimok tayong bumoto pabor sa ABS CBN kapalit ng 200 Million pesos. Simple lang ang sagot ko, hindi for sale ang prinsipyo at boto ko,” he said.

Yap said he didn’t share the alleged bribe offer to the media because he was unsure if the person who supposedly approached him was from ABS-CBN.

“[H]indi tayo sigurado kung emisaryo nga ng ABS CBN yun at unfair naman na malalagay sa alanganin ang pangalan ng ABS CBN dahil sa kanya at unfair din maging sa proceedings ng Joint Committee na tumatalakay sa issue ng prangkisa nila. May nadinig tayo na iba pang kaso gaya nito pero hindi natin nilabas dahil hindi din verified ang mga information na yun,” he said.

Politiko reported Tuesday (July 7) that INC and Duterte are separately lobbying with lawmakers to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise application.

A top-level source told Politiko that lawmakers are reportedly being threatened with zero projects if they vote to grant ABS-CBN’s franchise application. They’re also allegedly warned that they will face challengers in the 2022 elections if they don’t do the bidding of Pulong and INC.

On top of political threats, Politiko’s source claimed some lawmakers have also been threatened with physical harm– short of harassment– should they side with ABS-CBN.

Without naming Politiko, Yap dismissed reports of alleged intimidation of lawmakers as “unverified information.”
