Charter change (Cha-cha) is not a priority agenda of the government as the country faces the continued threat of the coronavirus, Malacañang said Monday.
In a virtual press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Duterte administration is currently focused on addressing the spread of the coronavirus disease.
He was reacting to the resolution of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, calling for the amendments in the Constitution to institutionalize the Mandanas ruling of the Supreme Court in the Constitution.
“Linggo-linggo nakikipag-usap naman ang Pangulo sa ating taumbayan at hindi lumulutang ang Charter Change bilang isang prayoridad,” according to Roque.
“Nakatutok ngayon ang President ang buong national government sa pamamagitan ng IATF dito po sa problema ng Covid-19, so hindi priyoridad ang Charter Change,” he added.
