Duterte: NPA rebels may get coronavirus vaccine if ‘you stop fighting for a while’

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said communist rebels can get a coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine if they would refrain attacking government forces.

In a taped public address aired on state-run PTV-4 Friday, Duterte said members of the New People’s Army (NPA) may receive a vaccination should they stop fighting the military.

The Chief Executive has tasked the Armed Forces of the Philippines to to implement the Covid-19 vaccination program.

“Yung mga NPA pabakunahan ko ba? If you stop fighting for a while during the period or until December, kasi my soldiers will be busy monitoring, supervising, wag lang niyong galawin, puwede kayong sumali, pumila doon,” according to him.

“And even if you announce that you are an NPA, it’s okay. Wala munang… pagamot ka muna o pa-vaccinate ka, para mahusay kang lumaban sa puwersa ko,” he added.

Also, Duterte clarified that this is not a declaration of a unilateral ceasefire, but an appeal to “allow the normal process of helping the country.”
