Muntik ma-sabotahe! Locsin claims Malaysia tried to derail arbitral award on South China Sea

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. accused Malaysia Thursday (July 30) of trying to “derail” the arbitral award won by the Philippines with regard to the maritime dispute in the South China Sea.

Locsin made the claim after Malaysian Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said he will summon the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia over Locsin’s remark on Sabah.

The Foreign Affairs chief earlier tweeted that Sabah is not part of Malaysia.

Responding to Hussein’s announcement, Locsin tweeted: “You summoned our ambassador for a historically factual statement I made: that Malaysia tried to derail the Arbitral Award. This was reported to us by our diplomats on the scene and our German lawyer. None may share our Hague victory who worked against it.”

Locsin did not give details on his allegation. However, he stood by his statement on Sabah.

“We have and continue to assert our rights in the Spratlys/WPS. I am doing that with regard to Sabah. There have been repeated attempts to sell that claim but no Philippine president has succumbed. You’re really stupid,” Locsin said in response to a netizen.

The Foreign Affairs Secretary also said that the summoning of the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia was “about to happen.”

“He was already summoned. It was about to happen. They are always trying to sneak in an attempt to implicitly abandon our claim. But I warned our diplomats. Never,” Locsin said.
