Next AFP chief must be ‘corrupt-free’, says Palace

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte wants the next head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to be honest and competent, Malacañang said Thursday.

AFP Spokesman Major General Edgardo Arevalo had said the Department of National Defense has already submitted 10 names of Senior Generals for Duterte to choose from to replace outgoing AFP Chief of Staff Felimon Santos Jr.

“The President considers as a very, very important the appointment of Chief of Staff,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque during a virtual presser aired on state-run PTV-4.

“Qualities? Must be able to serve Republic; must have the competence; must have integrity; dapat hindi corrupt; and must have shown a track record to serve the Republic,” added Roque.

Santos, 56, is set to retire from the service on August 4.
