MalacaƱang on Thursday thanked the Chinese government for its assurance that the Philippines would be a priority once it develops a vaccine for the coronavirus disease.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was reacting to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin’s commitment to give the country priority if China succeeds in developing a vaccine.
“Nagpapasalamat kami sa gobyerno ng Tsina dahil isinapubliko nila ang kanilang posisyon na bilang malapit na kaibigan ng China, ang Pilipinas ay makikinabang sa vaccine na dini-develop nila,” said Roque in a press conference held at the Quezon City Hall.
In his fifth State of the Nation Address last Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte said that he made a plea to Chinese President Xi Jinping to give the Philippines access to a Covid-19 vaccine.
“Tayo naman ay nakikipagkaibigan sa lahat. at aasahan natin na ang ibang kaibigan natin sa ibang parte ng daigdig ay ishi-share din sa atin ang kanilang mga vaccine kung meron din sila,” according to Duterte’s mouthpiece.
“Yan ay fruits of an independent foreign policy, where we are friends to all and enemies to no one,” he concluded.
