Zubiri COVID-free once again: Latak ng virus lang ‘yung nakita

By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN

Less than 24 hours after being tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, Senate Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri is once again free from any strain of the dreaded disease.

In his Facebook post, Zuburi said his confirmatory test with the Philippine Red Cross has come out and shows that he “no longer have live RNA cells of COVID-19.”

“Thank you so much for the concern and prayers! I AM NEGATIVE.. Thank you to our Lord God above!” said Zubiri.

Zubiri on Monday has skipped President Rodrigo Duterte’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) after his PCR test revealed strains of the COVID-19 virus on his blood stream.

Zubiri, a COVID-19 survivor himself last March said he was told by infectious disease experts that his July 27 results “possibly detected remnants of dead virus cells which is a common occurrence with recovered patients.”

“Studies from Europe, Asia and the US have shown that recovered patients with antibodies are no longer infectious and if COVID cells are discovered in their system it is most likely remnants of the dead covid cells which can no longer contaminate as found in extensive studies in South Korea,” said Zubiri.

“Ibig sabihin nito ay hindi na po ito nakakahawa at ligtas po ang recovered patient habang meron pa po siyang antibodies,” he added.

He noted that the PCR machines of the Philippine Red Cross “can detect live RNA and differentiate it from the dead pieces of the cells.”

Despite being COVID-free once again, Zubiri stressed that he will still undergo quarantine for “rudimentary period just to be sure.”

“I want to ensure everyone that I feel very well and healthy,” he said.

“I just want to thank each and everyone for the outpouring of support of all the messages and prayers that have uplifted my spirit and kept me emotionally, physically and Spiritually strong during this new challenge of mine. Maraming maraming Salamat po sa inyong lahat,” he added.
