Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) Senior Vice President for Legal Sector Jojo Del Rosario has resigned from his position as parallel investigations are being conducted over irregularities within the state health insurer.
In a statement, Del Rosario said he tendered his irrevocable resignation on Monday, August 24. He had been placed on a six-month preventive suspension last week by the Office of the Ombudsman amid its own probe on Philhealth.
“As I cannot afford to be unemployed for the next 6 months, and understanding that the corporation would need an SVP Legal in these trying times, I have tendered my irrevocable resignation effective August 24, 2020. This was a painful decision,” he said.
Del Rosario has denied being part of an alleged “mafia” within Philhealth. He said being dragged into the controversy involving the state health insurer has left him “in so much agony” and made him rethink his priorities.
“My job has kept me away from my family for the past 22 years, only spending a few weeks in a year with my loved ones. The stress that came with the job has also affected my health,” Del Rosario said.
The resigned Philhealth official said he now suffers from hypertension, diabetes, mitral valve prolapse and has a history of transient ischemic attack.
