Palace won’t release Duterte medical bulletin: ‘If there’s a serious illness, the people will know’

By Prince Golez

There is no need to issue a medical bulletin on President Rodrigo Duterte’s health, Malacañang said despite the chief executive’s admission that he’s nearing stage one cancer due to his Barrett’s esophagus.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque believes that the 75-year-old Duterte is “fit and healthy for a person his age.”

“The President is a lawyer. We will comply with the constitutional provision. If there is a serious illness, people will know. He will not hide it,” Roque told CNN Philippines’ The Source Wednesday.

“As far as the President’s medical condition is concerned, it comes from his own mouth. So it’s not as if that he’s trying to hide anything. He is very transparent. He has repeated what his doctors have said and that is why he has taken specific course of action i.e he stopped drinking,” he added.

Last month, the Palace official said that Duterte’s physical health is at “88 percent,” just like any other man his age.

How healthy is the President now in August?

“He’s healthy as any 75-year-old could be in the Philippines. That’s the reason why he regularly delivers his messages to the people weekly so that they would know and see him and judge for themselves,” according to Roque.
