Did Duterte ask PhilHealth chief Morales to resign? Palace has no comment

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang on Wednesday opted to remain silent about reports that President Rodrigo Duterte asked Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) chief Ricardo Morales to resign because of his ailment.

This despite Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra’s statement yesterday that Duterte advised Morales to step down due to his “on-and-off health situation” and the ongoing probe into alleged corruption in the state health insurer.

“Matters taken up during Cabinet meetings and the President should not be divulged to the public. What is for public consumption is what is broadcasted every time the President meets with select members of the Cabinet and delivers his message to the people,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told CNN Philippines.

“Anything not shown to the public is covered by executive privilege and I leave to the statements of Secretary Guevarra as is,” he added.

Asked if he’s expecting Morales, who was accused by resigned anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Montes Keith of coddling the alleged mafia within the agency, to tender his resignation today, the Palace official said: “I’m not expecting anything, but I will do my job.”
