DOT dapat humawak! Locsin: Spending P10-B tourism fund on infra will lead to kickbacks

The P10-billion fund for the tourism sector’s recovery will only end up as kickbacks for corrupt politikos if it is spent on infrastructure projects, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. said.

In a tweet posted Sunday (August 16), Locsin expressed support for calls to have the Department of Tourism (DOT) handle the P10-billion for the tourism industry under the proposed Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.

The House of Representatives‘ version of the Bayanihan 2 bill proposed giving P10 billion to the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

“Tourism’s about people—comin’ in, receiving ’em, takin’ care of ’em, having ’em enjoy best PH offers. It’s nothing to do w/ construction & kickbacks. Give money to DOT. Berna shut down operations to focus on helping get foreign nationals out & earn us a world of goodwill,” Locsin said.

The bicameral conference committee is meeting to iron out conflicting provisions in the Bayanihan 2 bill.
