Join PNP for higher pay, Duterte tells nurses

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday encouraged nurses to join the Philippine National Police (PNP) for better salaries.

“Those who want to work with government, lahat ng mga nurses na pulis, pumasok kayo sa pulis kasi malaki ang suweldo,” Duterte said in a televised address.

“If you remain a nurse outside, you only get about eight, nine, 10. So it’s time to give more to the people. All nurses sa uniformed sector will have to work, and we can always ask for volunteers,” according to him.

Duterte also directed Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to mobilize medical professionals to assist in the fight against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“I am asking Secretary Lorenzana to mobilize, call a mobilization of doctors and nurses and those who can help kung iyan maasahan namin, or I might outrightly call for all reservists to work. Iyan na lang. Ang COVID nandiyan. Wala mang kasalanan,” he said.

As of Sunday, the Philippines reported a total of 103,185 Covid-19 infections, with 65,557 recoveries and 2,059 fatalities.
