Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said he does not want to preempt the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte on Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
Remove officials whenever he wanted is Duterte’s prerogative, according to Nograles.
“We at Malacañang enjoy the trust and confidence of President Duterte. Any time that trust disappears or is eroded, it’s his prerogative to ask any cabinet official to step down,” he said during the online Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum Wednesday.
Several sectors, including senators, have called for Duque’s resignation due to his department’s alleged inefficiency in the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
Duterte, however, has repeatedly defended Duque from critics, saying that cases of Covid-19 surge globally and that the health chief was there all the time.
