PCOO official saddened by ‘forced’ retirement of 150 media workers

The economic impact of the coronavirus has left more than 100 media workers jobless, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco said.

Egco bared on Facebook that one of the leading media companies has implemented the “forced” retirement of 150 media workers. The media outfit is not identified in the August 19 Facebook post.

“It saddens me to hear about the ‘forced’ retirement of at least 150 media workers, including close friends, from one of the leading outfits. A consequence of this darn pandemic,” he wrote.

Egco wished the dismissed media workers good luck, assuring the nation will rise again from the pandemic.

“I wish them the best of luck. BABANGON TAYO! Meantime, keep safe!” he said.

Egco also serves as executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS). He worked as a journalist before joining the Duterte government in December 2016.
