Palace Spokesman Harry Roque is leaving it to PhilHealth chief Ricardo Morales to take a leave of absence or resign amid serious allegations of corruption within the agency.
“That’s really up to him. I’m not in the position to tell him what to do,” Roque said in an interview over CNN Philippines Wednesday.
According to him, the President won’t fire Morales unless there’s evidence he committed corruption.
“I think the Senate now is in the process of documenting this evidence, at the same time there’s also parallel investigation being conducted by Usec. (Jesus Melchor) Quitain (of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President),” said Roque.
“So it’s his decision whether or not he wants to go on leave while these investigations are ongoing but I’m just happy that two branches of government are investigating these allegations of fraud because as I said, our Universal Healthcare (UHC) Law cannot succeed unless we rid PhilHealth of corruption,” he added.
Last June, Roque said Morales can be replaced at PhilHealth if he is unable to enforce the UHC Act. Morales previously sought for a delay in its implementation due to lack of funds.
