Tañada defends hardworking health workers: Hello Sen Villar, nagpapatawa po ba kayo?

Senator Cynthia Villar is getting some intense rebuke on social media over her comment about the health workers.

Villar has reportedly brushed aside the plea of the health sector to return Metro Manila under enhanced community quarantine amid concerns people will die of hunger if such lockdown is reimposed. The wife of bilyonaryo Manny Villar said the health workers should instead do a better job.

Former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada has defended the country’s brave and selfless health workers from Villar’s statement. Tañada commended these medical professionals for their hard work in saving the lives of Filipinos from the new coronavirus disease.

“Hello… Sen Villar, nagpapatawa po ba kayo? ” the former House Deputy Speaker tweeted.

“The health workers have been working hard since March. Try working in their shoes while they are trying to save lives…All the pain and suffering they have to go through everyday. #COVID19PH #ECQ #MassTestingNowPH,” he said.

Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay also took a swipe at Villar over her remark about the health workers.

“Madam Senator, don’t be such a Slyhterin. Medical professionals are not house elves,” he tweeted.

After earning flak for her comment, Villar has reportedly clarified that she was addressing the government leaders who should step up their effort to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

Tañada however did not buy Villar’s clarification, saying her remark about the health workers was insensitive.

“Nice try on the clarification…but her statement is on record and is insensitive…Government leaders including herself should work harder with a clear plan to implement. We wasted a 3month ECQ. ECQ without a plan would be useless. #Covid19PH #ECQ #MassTestingNowPH,” he tweeted.
