Toxic micromanagement? Palace: No intervention in LGUs’ coronavirus response

By Prince Golez

Malacañang once again defended the assignment of Cabinet officials to help local government units (LGUs) deal with the coronavirus (Covid-19) problem.

Their designation is meant to improve the national government’s support to areas with high number of Covid-19 cases, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“It is not our intention to intervene with the works of the local government units. Bigay lang po kami ng suporta,” Roque said during a virtual presser Tuesday.

The spokesman was reacting to Senator Risa Hontiveros’ call for an investigation into what the lawmaker described as “toxic micromanagement” of LGUs during the health crisis.

“Mali po ang interpretasyon ni Senator Hontiveros. Wala pong intervention o panghihimasok na ginagawa namin. Tinatanong lang po natin kung paano makakatulong ang pang nasyonal na gobyerno sa mga local na pamahalaan,” he reiterated.
