Tuta ng KuChina: Chili oil sells out after shady ad with Duterte’s photo

Stocks of chili garlic oil made by an online seller sold out in a day after an ad featuring President Rodrigo Duterte went viral on Facebook.

The online seller, Tuta ng KuChina, earned both praise and criticism over the ad, which featured a caricature of Duterte’s photo while he was eating at home in Davao City.

The photo was shared by Senator Bong Go to dispel rumors the President had gone to Singapore for medical treatment.

The online seller’s text in the ad read: “Kulang na ba sa anghang ang ulam? Wag na badtrip pre! Ito na!”

The online seller’s name and the use Duterte’s photo were a hit with netizens, with Tuta ng KuChina’s Facebook post garnering over 10,800 shares since it was posted Saturday (August 22).

A few hours after posting the ad, Tuta ng KuChina said its chili garlic oil has been sold out.

In another Facebook post on Sunday (August 23), Tuta ng KuChina said the business was named after the owners’ puppies— though it wasn’t clear if it was also intended as a shade at the government.

“Marami nagagalit sa food business po namin. Ano po masama sa Tuta ng KuChina? Kaya namin naisip ang pangalan dahil may mga tuta kaming alaga. Cute no? Di tulad ng ibang tuta. At mahilig kami sa Chinese Food. Bahag ang mga buntot namin pag dating sa Chinese delicacies. Nanghihina mga tuhod namin,” the post read.
