President Rodrigo Duterte has the prerogative to appoint the next chief of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), according to Malacañang.
Asked if Duterte will consider acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua as the next PhilHealth head, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said, “Alam ninyo pagdating po sa appointment, talagang tanging Presidente lang po ang makakasagot niyan.”
Roque made the remark in a press briefing Saturday after Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri recommended Chua to replace PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Ricardo Morales should he resign or be removed by the President.
The state health insurer is currently being investigated over allegations of widespread corruption.
“Maski ako po’y tagapagsalita, wala po akong kapangyarihang sumagot diyan dahil appointment is exclusively the prerogative of the President,” the secretary said.
