Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman Chel Diokno hit the proposal of some lawmakers to suspend the 2022 elections because of the pandemic.
“Ang ibang bansa, nakahanap ng paraan para ituloy at gawing ligtas ang eleksyon,” he said in his social media posts.
The human rights lawyer expressed dismay that the lawmakers who made the proposal only intended to extend their stay in Congress.
“Sana yung mga kinatawan natin sa Kongreso e solusyon ang isipin, imbis na kung paano patagalin ang sarili sa pwesto,” Diokno said.
“Eleksyon ang pundasyon ng demokrasya natin, at dapat matuloy ito ayon sa batas,” he pointed out.
