Harry Roque: State workers have right to free expression, too

By Prince Golez

Government officials also have the right to free speech, MalacaƱang said when asked if they can share social media posts that red tag people or accuse them of plotting to oust the government.

“You know, even government officials do have freedom of expression. What is prohibited is if this is done in official mediums maintained by the Republic of the Philippines,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.

Roque added that the code of conduct for public officials also extends to their social media accounts.

Facebook had earlier shut down more than 100 fake accounts and pages linked to the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for “coordinated inauthentic behavior.”

The Palace, however, said the AFP has disowned the fake accounts.

“We have to believe the Armed Forces of the Philippines when they said that they have no official pages taken down by Facebook,” he added.
