Laude’s killer to face court-martial in US, says Roque

By Prince Golez

US soldier Joseph Scott Pemberton, convicted of killing transgender woman Jennifer Laude in 2014, will face court-martial proceedings in the United States, according to Malacañang.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, a former private prosecutor for the Laude family, said the United States government promised this during the pre-trial on the Laude murder case against Pemberton.

“Ang pangako nila, kung makakalabas si Pemberton, ibig sabihin matatapos lang ang proseso sa Pilipinas pero pag-uwi raw po ni Pemberton tuloy pa rin ‘yung kanyang court-martial proceedings at doon po malalaman kung meron pang additional na parusa na ipapataw sa kanya at ‘yung kanyang qualification to remain in service,” Roque during a virtual presser Monday.

Pemberton was deported from the Philippines Sunday after President Rodrigo Duterte granted him absolute pardon because he was treated unfairly.

The government, according to Duterte, failed to keep records of his good behavior.
