The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has begun processing the release of convicted United States Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton, BuCor Spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said on Thursday (Sept. 10).
“BuCor has recieved from the DOJ (Department of Justice) a copy of the Absolute Pardon granted to PDL (person deprived of liberty) Pemberton and has now started processing his release,” said Chaclag.
“BuCor is now in coordination with relevant agencies that are involved in the process,” he added.
Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente earlier said that Pemberton will be deported.
Morente revealed that BI’s board of commissioner issued a summary deportation order “against Pemberton on Sept. 16, 2015 for being an undesirable alien.”
Pemberton was convicted in 2015 for homicide in the killing of transgender Jeniifer Laude in 2014.
Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte granted Pemberton absolute pardon which would allow the marine to return home.
Morente said the BI is “dutybound and mandated” to implement a summary deportation order.”
