Remulla apologizes for hasty travel warning to Tagaytay: Travel pass not needed

People planning to visit Tagaytay City may do so but are reminded to follow health protocols to avoid the coronavirus infection.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has apologized after he warned against visiting popular tourist destination in his home province. He clarified that travel pass is not needed to enter Tagaytay City.

The politiko earlier said Tagaytay’s climate poses a high risk for acquiring the dreaded coronavirus illness.

“On behalf of the Cavite Provincial Government, I would like to apologize for the hasty decision to issue a travel warning to Tagaytay City last September 15,” Remulla said in a Facebook post on September 17.

“I was reacting to a directive made by Philippine National Police Chief General Guillermo Eleazar issuing a statement that a travel pass is required to enter Tagaytay,” he said.

“Sa kasalukuyan, bukas po ang Tagaytay City under MGCQ at hindi po kinakailangan ng TRAVEL PASS para makarating dito,” he said.

Remulla however appealed to visitors to take extra precautions especially after nearly 250 persons tested positive for the coronavirus in the Philippine National Police Academy in Cavite. The police academy is located along Tagaytay-Sta. Rosa road, a major road going to the tourist attraction.

Travelers may also visit the hotels and restaurants in Tagaytay although there are existing limited operational capacity of the facilities.

“All restaurants in Tagaytay City are subject to IATF guidelines. Occupancy and operation hours apply,” Remulla said.

The hotels accredited by the Department of Tourism are allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity. “Siguro ang ibig sabihin: One (1) person per room lamang ang puedeng gumamit at a time 😆 Bahala na po kayo umintindi sa patakaran na yan,” the governor said in jest.

Despite having no travel restrictions in Tagaytay, Remulla reminded the travelers to about the lingering threat of the coronavirus. He advised the public to stay safe since the community quarantine is still in effect.

“On a serious note, PLEASE remember that we are still under a strict QUARANTINE system. We are still very much in a pandemic mode. Patuloy ang paglaganap ng COVID kaya’t siguraduhin po ang pag-iingat ng lahat,” he said.

“Panahon ng tag-ulan ngayon sa Cavite at ang pagkakasakit ng sipon at ubo (at ang droplets na dala nito) ay maaaring maging contributing factor sa pagkalat ng COVID. Stay safe and keep well everyone. God bless Cavite!” he said.
