Bagal kasi! Duterte wants to fast-track Marawi rehab efforts

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte hopes that government agencies will hasten the recovery and rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi City, his spokesman said.

But, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Palace is “satisfied” with the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate Marawi, which has been heavily damaged following the terrorist attacks by the Maute group in 2017.

“Let’s just say that we are satisfied, but the President, of course, would appreciate if it can be hastened,” Roque said in his televised briefing Monday.

Asked on the complaints of Moro Consensus Group that many continue to suffer three years after the city was declared liberated from Islamic State-inspired fighters, the Palace official said: “We will confer with (Task Force Bangon Marawi) Secretary (Eduardo) del Rosario on this matter.”

Over a thousand people were killed and 360,000 displaced following the clashes between government troops and Maute insurgents on May 27, 2017.
