Duterte gives DFA green light to probe abusive PH envoy

President Rodrigo Duterte has given the green light for the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to proceed with its investigation involving Philippine Ambassador to Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro after video footage showed her mistreating her 51-year-old Filipino helper.

This was confirmed by Duterte’s spokesman Harry Roque during his virtual presser held in Panglao, Bohol Thursday.

“Pinayagan na po ng Presidente ang DFA na imbestigahan ang dating Philippine Ambassador to Brazil na si Marichu Mauro,” according to Roque.

“Bilang isang presidential appointee, kinakailangan ang pagpayag ng Presidente bago ma imbestigahan ang dating Philippine ambassador to Brazil,” he added.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. earlier sought authority from Duterte to investigate Mauro.

The secretary had ordered the ambassador to return home to explain the alleged maltreatment of her staff.
