Palace vows effective use of Lopez donations

By Prince Golez

The Office of the President (OP) will act on the findings of the Commission on Audit (COA) regarding the unused grants and donations from Lopez family-owned Benpres Holdings Corporation worth P1.4 billion, Malacañang said Friday.

In the annual audit report on the OP released Thursday, COA disclosed that P1.4 billion in donations remained untapped as of December 31, 2019.

Citing Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters the OP is “already working on the guidelines and studying how to best address the findings of the COA.”

Also, Roque assured that the untapped grants and donations “will be effectively and efficiently utilized.”

Benpres is the holding company for the businesses of the Lopezes that include electric distribution utility Manila Electric Company, real estate developer Rockwell Land Corporation, and broadcast firm ABS-CBN.
