Malacañang discouraged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from paying for swab testing.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the swab test is free of charge for OFWs.
Roque made the statement after some OFWs are being asked to pay up to P20,000 for quick Covid-19 test results.
“Libre ang mga OFWs, ang magbabayad po niyan OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration),” the Palace official said in a recent press briefing.
According to him, Covid-19 tests for OFWs are subject to reimbursement by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. or PhilHealth.
“Subject naman talaga po for reimbursement ng PhilHealth ang test to be given to OFWs, at lahat naman po ng mga private labs providers know how they can collect from PhilHealth,” he added.
