President Rodrigo Duterte reminded his son, Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, to be transparent in handling funds as head of one of the House of Representatives’ most powerful committees.
In a public address aired Tuesday (October 27), Duterte said he has been consistent in reminding his children to avoid corruption while in government. The President’s oldest daughter, Sara, is mayor of Davao City.
“Iyan ang sinasabi ko kay Inday pati kay Pulong. Huwag kayong pumasok, sumobra, especially si Pulong, sa accounts siya ngayon sa committee. Be sure to account for every money up to the last centavo para ang tao walang masabi,” he said.
Duterte, however, appeared to shrug off any chance that Sara might be tempted to engage in corruption.
“Inday, wala ‘yan. Talagang hindi mo ma-ano ‘yan. Babarilin ka pa niyan,” he said.
Paolo was elected chairman of the House accounts committee after Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco became the Speaker. The panel is in charge of the House’s internal budget.
