President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the release of additional P1.5 billion to local government units (LGUs) for post-disaster rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
Duterte authorized the fund release following Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado’s report Monday evening.
“Ang kailangan ko lang po sa inyo, approval ng release ng P1.5 billion augmentation of local calamity funds to LGUs affected by Typhoon Ulysses,” Avisado told the President.
The Chief Executive then ordered the Budget chief to release the local calamity funds to concerned local governments.
“If the papers have been released already pending my signature, you can release… I will sign it now,” said Duterte.
Avisado said the funds can be released by the Bureau of Treasury on Tuesday.
Ulysses left 73 people dead and displaced thousands of families when it battered Luzon in mid-November.
