The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has strongly the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the murder of National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) peace consultants Eugenia Magpantay and Agaton Topacio last Wednesday in Angono, Rizal.
Magpantay and Topacio, both in their late 60s, recently retired from active service in the revolutionary movement, due to age-related infirmities.
“We reject the claims of the police that the couple resisted arrest and were killed in a firefight. In their physical state, the couple would not have been able to manage the sheer number of weapons said to be found in the scene, much less put up a rigorous gun battle,” the CPP said in a statement Saturday.
The rebels linked the “mafia-style” executive of the couple to the recent murder of NDFP peace consultants Randall Echanis and Julius Giron and the killing of Randy Malayao last year.
“We hold Duterte, his National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict and PNP Chief Debold Sinas as the masterminds behind the killing of Magpantay and Topacio,” their statement also read.
