President Rodrigo Duterte said he sees no reason to suspend Health Secretary Fransisco Duque despite several lawmakers insisted that he is liable for the corruption at the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
Duterte made the comment as he lauded Duque’s “surveillance” and “vigilance” in averting disaster-related outbreaks.
“Ang nahalata ko dito sa panahon mo is the surveillance and the vigilance in keeping track of possible outbreaks, I like that, and you have been doing it,” according to the Chief Executive.
“That’s why I cannot find any plausible or even a meager argument for your suspension. Wala akong nakitang ano… Ang trabaho mo maganda. The surveillance that you are doing and the vigilance sa public health is amply protected,” he also said.
Amid lingering accusations that the secretary was allegedly involved in PhilHealth anomalies, Duterte has repeatedly defended Duque saying the latter is already rich to get involved in corruption.
