Duterte’s sex jokes meant to ‘lighten the mood’ – Palace

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Monday defended President Rodrigo Duterte’s sexist comments during yesterday’s typhoon briefing in Camarines Sur.

The supposed jokes are Duterte’s way to lighten the mood, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser.

On Sunday, Duterte cracked jokes laced with sexual references with a local official, also a classmate in law school.

“Talagang ugali na ng Pilipino na bagamat marami tayong pagsubok, sinusubukan pa rin natin i-lighten yung ating mga problema,” Roque also said.

“Let’s not read anything beyond the fact that the President wants to more or less lighten the mood dahil buong araw wala siyang nakita kung ‘di disaster doon sa Cagayan at doon sa Naga. Hayaan na natin. Bigyan naman natin ng pagkakataon na magkaroon ng light moment ang ating Presidente,” he furthered.

Duterte is notorious for comments deemed offensive or sexist toward women.
