Malacañang on Monday wished former Speaker and Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez well, following his resignation from ruling party PDP-Laban.
“Wala po kaming reaksyon. Personal na desisyon yan ni Congressman Alvarez,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
Alvarez tendered his “irrevocable” resignation Sunday, citing his plan to pursue a voters education campaign.
“Tumawag siya sa akin kahapon. Ang dahilan daw ay dahil mag-e-engage siya sa voters education na baka hindi niya magagawa kung siya ay kasapi ng administration party,” Roque said.
“Yun lang po ang sinabi niya. Sa panig ng Malacañang, we wish him well,” he also said.
To recall, Alvarez was ousted as House Speaker and replaced by then-Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
President Rodrigo Duterte, longtime friend and political ally of Alvarez, had said that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, was behind the ouster.
