On Senate’s behalf, Sotto condoles with Cullamat on loss of daughter

Senate President Tito Sotto on Tuesday expressed his condolences on behalf of the Senate to Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Eufemia Cullamat for losing her daughter Jevilyn during a clash between government forces and alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.

“On behalf of the Senate, I’d like to express our deepest condolences and sympathy to Bayan Muna Rep. Cullamat for the loss of her daughter Jevilyn,” he said at the resumption of the Senate investigation into the “red-tagging” of activist lawmakers and government critics.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family,” Sotto said, addressing the Bayan Muna lawmaker.

“May (her) beautiful memories sustain and bring comfort to you during this difficult time, on behalf of the Senate,” Sotto added.

Cullamat’s 22-year-old daughter was killed during the clash in Marihatag town, Surigao del Sur, according to reports.

The military said Jevilyn was killed during the shootout between a 12-man Army Special Forces team and the alleged communist rebels on Saturday, November 28.
