So many unanswered questions: PJA calls for sobriety, patience after Manila judge’s shooting

The Philippine Judges Association (PJA) on Friday (Nov. 13) called for sobriety and patiente over the ongoing investigation on the killing of Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Maria Teresa Abadilla.

“There are many questions which are still left unanswered,” said PJA President Felix Reyes in a statement.

“Hence, we request for sobriety and patience and let the investigation take its proper course,” he urged.

Reyes the death Abadilla is “a constant reminder that judges, while performing their judicial duties and functions, are not spared from the risks and hazards that they are exposed to, not only from an assassin’s bullet, but even from persons known to them.”

Last Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 11), Abadilla was shot and killed inside her court room in the Manila CIty Hall by her clerk of court, lawyer Amador Rebato, who committed suicide.

Reyes said that PJA is both shocked and saddened over the loss of Abadilla whom he described as “a competent and dedicated judge who had served and given most of her productive years in the service of the Judiciary.”

“The tragic and untimely demise of Judge Tessa in the hands of her own branch clerk of court happened while the whole country is in the midst of a health pandemic and Metro Manila was preparing for a powerful typhoon,” he stated.

“The gruesome manner of her death, as well as that of her branch clerk of court, came as a total shock to us in the Judiciary, and has definitely brought unbearable pain to her family and friends,” he added.
