Kahit kilala na suspek! Guevarra orders NBI: Probe slay of Manila judge

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Friday (Nov. 13) he has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the killing of Manila Judge Maria Teresa Abadilla.

“Though Judge Abadilla’s death appears to have arisen from an internal issue with her clerk of court, I have nonetheless directed the NBI to conduct a parallel probe, considering that the incident has implications on the personal security of our judges and justices,” he explained.

Abadilla was shot and killed inside her court room inside the Manila CIty Hall Wednesday afternoon (nov. 11) by her clerk of court, lawyer Ambador Rebato, who committed suicide.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta has ordered to have security in court houses across the country intensified following the killing of Abadilla.

“Although there are currently security protocols in place in all our courthouses, I have directed the Court Administrator to employ stricter measures to prevent incidents like these from happening again,” Peralta said in a statement.

Peralta expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the 44-year-old slain judge.

“The passing of Judge Abadilla is indeed a big loss to the Judiciary because I personally know her to be an upright and highly competent magistrate,”said Peralta.

“She was a law clerk in the Supreme Court for more than a decade before becoming an RTC Judge,” he added.
