Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Wednesday floated a possible resumption of peace negotiations between the government and the communist insurgents.
“The government is ready. The President is ready. But, what we want from them is a little bit of sincerity,” Lorenzana told CNN Philippines when asked for a possibility of resuming peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
“I dare the Makabayan bloc to, first, denounce the CPP-NPA (New People’s Army) or they should renounce their armed struggle and we work together,” he added.
Early last year, President Rodrigo Duterte announced the permanent termination of dialogues between the government and the CPP.
In December 2018, Duterte issued Executive Order 70 creating a national task force to end local communist armed conflict and directing the adoption of a national peace framework.
