NBI nabs DOJ exec’s aide for extortion try

By Nancy Carvajal

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a man claiming to be a representative of former Philippine National Police chief Camilo Cascolan for allegedly using his name to extort money from customs brokers.

Cascolan reported the suspect, identified as Louie Musni Miranda, to the NBI after the alleged extortion attempts reached him.

Miranda is an executive assistant in the office of an Assistant Secretary of the Department of Justice.

He has allegedly been telling brokers that Cascolan is set to be appointed as Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and should be given the traditional “pasalubong” or monetary gift.
