Duterte may sign 2021 budget before Christmas – Palace

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to sign the proposed P4.5 trillion 2021 national budget before Christmas, Malacañang said.

But, the Office of the President has yet to receive a copy of the final version of the 2021 budget from the bicameral conference of Congress.

In a virtual presser Tuesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has an idea which provisions will likely be vetoed by the President since Secretary Wendel Avisado claimed to have an advance copy of the legislation.

“Maski hindi pa formally submitted ay napag-aralan na at medyo alam na ng DBM kung ano iyong mga line items na posibleng i-veto ng Presidente. Ibig sabihin, hindi po tayo maaantala doon sa pag-aaral dahil napag-aaralan na po at inaasahan pa rin natin mapipirmahan po ang budget para maging epektibo sa a-uno ng Enero,” according to Roque.

“We are even planning a ceremonial signing of the budget before Christmas. Ayaw ko na lang po magsabi kung kailan exactly,” he added.

The Palace official earlier assured that Duterte will thoroughly review the proposed budget and will use his veto power to remove unconstitutional budget provisions.
